MOSSYO (MOSS Youth Orchestra)
The Missouri Symphony Youth Orchestra (MOSSYO) and Junior Strings programs are composed of some of mid-Missouri's most talented young musicians who come together to grow and nurture not only their skill, but their love of music as well through rehearsal and performance. Under the guidance of internationally-known conductor and teacher Kirk Trevor, MOSSYO strives to engage young musicians in both a high quality of performance and a lifelong love of music.
Membership in each of the orchestras is determined by audition. All MOSSYO/JrS musicians are expected to participate in their school music programs and/or private instruction.
About Maestro Trevor:
Kirk Trevor is a regular guest conductor and teacher in the world's concert halls. Music Director and Conductor of the Missouri Symphony Orchestra since 2000, the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra from 1985 - 2003 and the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra since 1988, Maestro Trevor has forged a strong musical partnership with three of America's leading regional orchestras.
The MOSS Youth Orchestra is composed of students from 8-12th grades and is an opportunity for the advanced young musician to explore a rich and diverse repertoire, including orchestral, chamber and small ensemble works. Students are encouraged to broaden their level of creativity through composition, improvisation and the performance of traditional and non-traditional music. Rehearsals will include conducting, composition, improvisation and eurhythmics.
The Youth Orchestra (grades 8-12) will meet at the Missouri Theatre Center for the Arts on Monday evenings from 6:30-8:45pm beginning January 26, 2009. Tuition is $125 per semester.
